Weekend marred by shootings, stabbings and robberies

Serious crime and violence kept police officers in Antigua & Barbuda busy this weekend.

Among the incidents, a shooting in Johnson’s on Friday night which left one man nursing a gunshot wound to the upper body.

There are reports that stray bullets from an incident in that same village pierced through a house, no one was injured.

The police have launched an investigation into both incidents.

It was also on Friday night that the owners of the Bitar Restaurant in All Saints were robbed at gunpoint. Masked men got away with the day’s revenue.

Early on Saturday morning, a police Inspector was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of Brownies Bakery. His car was also stolen along with money and valuables.

There was a second robbery that same night and while three of the masked men were robbing the Police Inspector, two other assailants targeted another motorist in the parking lot.

According to reports, they stole money and other valuables from this motorist before also taking his vehicle.

Police later found the stolen vehicle abandoned; this motorist was also not harmed.

There were several reports of stolen vehicles and vehicle break-ins.

A mother reported that her son was stabbed by another man on Friday night but has since been released from the hospital.

As the police continue their investigation into these latest crimes, they are asking anyone with information which may assist in finding the perpetrators to call the Criminal Investigation Department, CID.
